When I played baseball as a kid, I had well-meaning coaches – but none of them had access to the treasure trove of free, on-demand coaching content we have today.
So today, I want to share some of my favorite resources and coaching accounts that cover the basics: throwing, catching, practice planning, and more.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking for fresh ideas, I hope this collection is helpful.
Coaching General:
Tee Ball program guide: A fantastic resource with step-by-step instructions on running a tee ball program and structuring your practices.
Coach Pitch program guide: Same as above but for the next level of play.
Diamond leader training: This is a fantastic course that digs into the mental, social, and emotional well-being that will make you a successful coach.
Attitude and parents: A reminder for all of us to keep it fun and easygoing.
Mechanics:
Catch the ball: “Fingers to the sky.” A simple, helpful cue for young players.
Throwing 1: There are a lot of great options out there, but I like this one for beginners.
Throwing 2: Another favorite that breaks it down clearly.
Throwing 3: Specifically for softball
Batting Basics: Aimed at tee ball, but useful across all levels.
Late swing / Fix casting: A great drill, especially once you’re into kid-pitch.
Throwing batting practice: Throwing BP is harder than it looks! This is a great resource for getting it right.
Batting Safety: Helps kids who are afraid of the ball. Teaches proper avoidance techniques and builds confidence.
Favorite coaching resources
Coach Ballgame: Tons of energy, fun, and practical advice.
Dominate the Diamond: Solid instruction and great resources for new and seasoned coaches alike.
I hope these resources are helpful!
